Closure of Archives New Zealand digitisation programme – PSA protest 14 May

Archives New Zealand has announced it will be closing its digitisation programme and on-demand digitisation service on 30 June 2024.

This announcement comes on top of another recent decision, not to proceed with the planned archival storage facility near Levin. It also follows reductions in opening hours at Archives reading rooms a few years ago. These earlier decisions were explained in relation to Archives’ focus on digitisation, which it is now abandoning.

In addition, there have been announcements of job cuts at the National Library which, like Archives New Zealand, is part of the Department of Internal Affairs.

The Public Service Association (PSA) has organised a protest about these and related issues. All welcome – you don’t need to be a PSA member to attend.

Where: Outside the National Library on the cnr of Molesworth and Aitken Streets, Wellington
