At 12.30pm on Tuesday 25 Feb, in the Programme Rooms at the National Library, Douglas Roberts will be giving a one-hour presentation about his heritage and archives-based education work and recent projects, along with some discussion and sharing of ideas about outreach and education work using archives, objects and historic places.
Douglas is the Education Development Officer for the Scottish Council on Archives, based in Edinburgh, Scotland. In this role he facilitates workshops and training opportunities for archives staff, undertakes research and development of curriculum-based resources using archive materials, and carries out consultancy and review of history and heritage education projects. In the past two years he has devised theatre performances based on wartime letters and diaries for the Scottish Theatre of Remembrance project, written classroom resources for analysing and interpreting archive records for ARA Scotland, and delivered a national training and coaching programme for Scottish archives. Originally from New Zealand, Douglas spends several months of each year in Auckland undertaking theatre projects with young people in his other role as a playwright and drama facilitator.
